Goals

Bavaria with its capital city Munich is the most important financial services center in Germany. The mission of the Munich Financial Center Initiative is to heighten the area’s profile as a key financial services center and to draw attention and support to the Initiative’s ideas and proposals. Thus, our focus is in the following areas:
  1. We want to participate in the development of the European financial centers and collaborate in drafting legislative proposals in the European Union, as well as the German government. We also want to bring forth suggestions for improving legal frameworks. We already have achieved important successes – for example, with the provisions of Basel II and the amendment to § 18 of the German Banking Act.
  2. We want to improve financing processes and initiate the development of new financing models. In this context, we are intensifying communication in the areas of small and medium-sized business financing and the venture capital market. These efforts are making it easier for investors and emerging high-growth companies, as well as medium-sized businesses, to come together.
  3. We support the further development of the economic and financial research infrastructure in Munich and Bavaria. We are exploring, for example, the possibility of setting up a finance research center. The focus of our activities has been linking up relevant organizations and institutions, promoting collaboration between academic theory and practice, and creating more transparency for the insurance and banking sectors for providing funding for higher education.
  4. Through increased location marketing, we are strongly demonstrating the advantages of the Munich Financial Center to the financial industry and their top executives. We are working to further optimize conditions here in order to attract English-speaking financial experts to the Munich Financial Center and facilitate their integration into the area.
  5. We support the further development of the Munich stock exchange, above all as a securities trading center for private investors and as an ideal platform for initial public offerings by medium-sized businesses.
  6. We want to facilitate access by providing current information about the financial center and its members to interested parties. This includes providing a financial center calendar containing the most important events in Munich and Bavaria. We also want to inform them of current activities and strengthen the identity of the financial center and its community.
  7. We are working together with other financial centers and initiatives, for example, with Hesse and the Initiative Finanzstandort Deutschland (the Financial Center Germany Initiative).
