tl_files/fpmi/images/thumbs/themen/content_10_Jahre_fpmi2.jpgMunich Financial Center Initiative (known by its German initials of ‘fpmi)’ is celebrating its tenth birthday. At the 2010 Bavarian Financial Summit, Martin Zeil, Bavaria’s economics minister, honored the Initiative’s founding parents: Franz-Christoph Zeitler, vice-president of the Deutsche Bundesbank; Otto Wiesheu, former Bavarian economic minister; and Günther Picker, managing member of the executive board of Bavaria’s Association of Banks. Each of them received a specially-created medal from Zeil.

In his speech, Zeil emphasized that it was high time to honor the founding parents – for two reasons. The first is for having come up with such a good idea, and the second for having realized it so successfully. Thanks to the three’s efforts, fpmi has become “a who’s who of the financial community in Munich and in the rest of Bavaria,” stated the minister, and as shown by the number of its members, which has increased from 20 to nearly 50 over the past ten years. This figure makes fpmi the largest of its kind in Germany. In his remarks, Zeil lauded the Initiative’s pragmatism, efficiency, and dedication. He also cited the mutual trust prevailing among its members.

The minister also honored Christine Bortenlänger, the managing director of the Munich Stock Exchange, and, for the last six years, speaker (on a voluntary basis) of fpmi, for her efforts on behalf of the Initiative. These efforts have constituted one major reason for fpmi’s success. These efforts have sustained the drive bequeathed it by its founding parents, thus making it possible to celebrate fpmi’s tenth birthday, noted Zeil.
